A pair of shoes worn by Michael Jackson seen at Bonhams auction house in London on December 14, and a hat worn by the pop legend in a landmark 2001 performance in New York were sold Wednesday at Bonhams for 22,800 pounds (37,300 dollars, 25,600 euros).

LONDON (AFP) – The hat and shoes worn by Michael Jackson in a landmark 2001 performance in New York were sold Wednesday at auction in London for 22,800 pounds, auctioneers Bonhams said.
The late pop legend’s accessories from a television special at Madison Square Garden, held to mark Jackson’s 30th anniversary as a solo artist, beat its pre-sale estimate of 10-12,000 pounds.

Jackson’s performance, filmed over two nights in September 2001, was watched by a record-breaking 44 million people when it aired two months later.

The top-selling lot from the entertainment memorabilia sale at Bonhams was Ray Lowry’s original cover artwork for The Clash’s 1979 album “London Calling”, which fetched 72,000 pounds.

An autographed issue of “The Beatles Book” fan club magazine from December 1963, a July 1966 issue and five photographs of the Fab Four together fetched 12,000 pounds.
